Come here to get better.
Team Carolina is built to develop complete lacrosse players — more skilled, more athletic, more intelligent, more competitive, more confident. The journey has to be worth taking. That's the promise.
01 · Why we exist
We want our players to dream big. For some, that dream becomes college lacrosse. For others, the final game comes after high school, or middle school, or whenever they decide their playing journey is complete.
Every one of those journeys can be successful.
We prepare players who want to pursue college lacrosse to reach the highest level their ability, work, and ambition can take them. But we refuse to make a future roster spot the only reason today's experience matters.
Travel lacrosse should matter right now. The teammates. The competition. The road trips. The wins, the losses, the mistakes, the memories. The confidence that comes from doing difficult things.
We prepare for college.
We don't play for college.
02 · Our promise
Better means more than lacrosse.
Better player
Better person
Develop the player. Develop the person. Prepare both for what's next.
03 · How we play
Four principles that define our on-field identity — how we want players to think, make decisions, compete, and play the game.
Trust yourself.
See it. Try it. Own the result. Learn. Go again. We want players making decisions — not looking to the sideline for permission. Freedom creates creativity. Experience creates earned confidence.
Take initiative.
Attack space. Hunt ground balls. Pressure hands. Push transition. Cut hard. Communicate first. Aggressive does not mean reckless — it means acting with purpose instead of waiting for the game to happen to you.
Solve the game.
See space, numbers, leverage, matchups, slides, recoveries, clock, score. See what's happening now — and what's about to happen next. The best players don't just move faster. They see faster.
Make each other better.
Lacrosse is a game of connected decisions. A dodge creates movement. A pass creates responsibility. A slide creates a recovery. One player acts. Everyone else must understand what that action means for them.
One acts. Everyone reacts.
04 · How we show up
Seven standards that define our culture — how players, coaches, and leaders approach development, relationships, adversity, accountability, and being part of this team.
Bring it every rep.
Every practice. Every drill. Every possession. The scoreboard doesn't have to be on for the standard to be. Competition is a habit, not a switch.
Get better today.
Not your teammate. Not the player on the other team. Yesterday's version of you. Development compounds when the bar keeps moving.
Character is non-negotiable.
Talent doesn't earn you a pass. How you treat teammates, coaches, officials, opponents, and everyone around the game matters more than any statistic.
Standards, not preferences.
On time. Prepared. Present. Coachable. These aren't things you do when you feel like it. They're what it means to be part of this program.
Bring the Juice.
Talent is inherited. Energy is a choice. Bring energy that lifts teammates, sharpens practice, and makes coaches and officials want to work with you.
Do the hard thing.
Take the shot. Own the mistake. Say the hard truth. Try again. Growth lives on the other side of the thing you don't want to do.
Make everyone better.
Root for the guy next to you. Celebrate his win. Pick him up after a mistake. The best programs are built by players who make everyone around them better.
PLAY FAST defines how we play. CONNECT defines how we show up.
05 · The complete player
Not statistics. Not rankings. Not highlight reels. Complete lacrosse players — developed across six areas.
Recruitability isn't one of the six. It's what can happen when the six become good enough.
06 · The development pathway
Developmental phases, not rigid age groups. Players progress through behaviors, not birthdays.
Phase 01
Can I play?
Build the foundation. Catch, throw, run, dodge, shoot, defend, scoop, compete. Experiment. Play multiple positions. Use both hands. Make mistakes. Try again. And most importantly — love playing.
Coach role Guide. Show, encourage, challenge. Then let them play.
Phase 02
Can I see it?
Skill becomes decision skill. Players recognize space, numbers, leverage, matchups, slides, two-man actions, off-ball opportunities, transition — cause and effect. They begin understanding why.
Coach role Teach. Ask questions. Connect actions to reactions.
Phase 03
Can I create it?
Seeing the game isn't enough. Create the slide. Create the matchup. Move the defender. Change the angle. Use timing and deception. Force opponents into difficult decisions.
Coach role Challenge. Fewer answers. Harder problems. More ownership.
Phase 04
Can I solve it?
Players adapt. Self-correct. Recognize opponents. Communicate solutions. Perform under pressure. Lead. Prepare independently. When the game changes — they change with it.
Coach role Collaborate.
Early: Coach → Player
Eventually: Player → Game
Great development creates independence.
07 · Principles over plays
Team Carolina doesn't prescribe one offense or one defense. Different teams have different personnel. Different opponents create different problems. Our coaches have the freedom to build systems that fit their players.
The system can change. The principles don't.
With the ball
Create decisions. Put defenders in conflict.
Create an advantage. Find it. Attack the next one.
Cut. Pick. Relocate. Create separation. Never pass and watch.
Without the ball
Influence where the offense goes. Make them react to us.
Pressure catches, passes, dodges, and possessions.
See it. Say it. Solve it together.
We don't just teach plays.
We teach players how to play.
08 · How we train
Team Carolina practices are built around movement, decisions, competition, and problem-solving.
Small-sided
More touches. More decisions. More involvement.
Constraint-based
Change the rules or environment to teach the behavior.
Game-like
Players learn to recognize and solve the situations they'll actually face.
Competitive
Score it. Pressure it. Make decisions matter.
The goal isn't to create players who need the sideline to give them answers. It's to develop players capable of finding their own.
09 · Development before exposure
We are not chasing recruiting earlier and earlier. Exposure isn't development. A showcase isn't development. A highlight reel isn't development. A commitment graphic isn't development.
Our job isn't to get players seen early.
It's to make them worth seeing when it matters.
If college lacrosse becomes a player's goal, we help them pursue it seriously — prepare, evaluate honestly, communicate, understand their level, and find the right fit. One question matters enormously: if lacrosse disappeared tomorrow, would I still want to attend this school?
